Learning
At Royal Prince Alfred Hospital School we focus on ensuring our students stay connected to their learning, school and their community. Our high expectations and tailored approach of teaching and learning normalises the student's day. Each lesson is reported back to their regular school which helps facilitate a smooth transition back after hospitalisation.

Our learning approach
Our teachers manage a diverse caseload of students with complex medical and additional needs, tailoring support to each student’s circumstances in consultation with the RPA medical team. They collaborate closely with the student’s regular school, medical teams, and families to develop Individualised Education Programs and curriculum adjustments.
Curriculum planning is flexible and responsive, designed to connect with classroom learning while accommodating medical and emotional needs. Time spent with each student varies based on their health and educational requirements to ensure meaningful engagement and continuity of learning.
Our learning approach includes:
- Setting high learning expectations, fostering meaningful connection to ensure each student feels valued and supported.
- Teachers promote student agency by involving learners in planning, empowering active engagement.
- Student voice and collaboration with families, medical teams, and regular schools enable fluid, responsive learning tailored to evolving needs.
- Learning progress is monitored and reported, supporting smooth transitions and sustained growth.
- Partnerships with schools and health professionals deliver a connected curriculum that balances academic rigour with wellbeing, offering expansive opportunities for curiosity and growth.
