Our School Context

Royal Prince Alfred Hospital School is a NSW Department of Education school working alongside NSW Health colleagues to ensure the holistic needs of young people are met during their stay at RPA. We aim to engage with every school aged student (K – 12) and keep them connected to their learning, school and community through the provision of quality teaching and learning. We report all learning back to the student’s current school, even if they are a patient at RPA Hospital for the day. We believe that connecting students to their learning, keeps them connected to their school and community.

Our teaching staff are highly skilled to meet the individual needs of all students. They have differentiated programs and strong systems of practice to meet each student’s need. Importantly, we liaise between educational settings, teacher to teacher to support the continuity of learning. Our systems of practice support the school motto of Care, Connection and Continuity.

Continuity of learning

School attendance, engagement and connectedness are essential elements for school belonging and success. Watch the following video to hear from one of our students regarding his journey back to health through the provision of quality teaching and learning during a medium term hospital stay.

The hospital community

The RPA Hospital School team works in direct collaboration with medical teams and allied health professionals of the hospital. Teachers will liase with the paedetric ward and emergency services as well as sit in during clinical outpatient appointments to bring an educational lense to the ongoing therapy of the students.
